Marrakech : travel tips and 5 awesome things to do in Marrakech!

There are many Marrakech travel suggestions on this blog! Including the top five things to do in Marrakech, a stunning riad, and the top restaurants in this enchanted Moroccan city. Everything you need for a fantastic vacation in Marrakech, a Moroccan imperial city!

Cooters zoom around like crazy, passing you on the right and left while shopkeepers draw you inside their establishment. While you wait, a bunch of happy kids rush past you and you can hear the mosque’s call to prayer in the distance. Welcome to Marrakech’s bustling center, the Medina. One of Morocco’s four imperial cities is Marrakech. Fez, Meknés, and Rabat round out the remaining three. In the past of the kingdom, these cities served as its capital.

Is Marrakech too touristic?

Now have four days to unwind in Marrakech after spending a week traveling by car through the Atlas Mountains and the southern part of Morocco. We arrive in the city with some skepticism because there are so many wonderful things to see in the rest of the nation; a touristy Marrakech can only be disappointing.Or not …? Immediately feel at home in this place. Marrakech is amazing because of the throng, the lovely weather, but most of all, all the beauty. The city is stunning; every street corner features stunning mosaics, pink buildings, and colorful herb towers. In these four days, we take over 500 images, which is not bad.

You can’t deny that Marrakech is a tourist destination. But I didn’t find this at all unsettling. In contrast to the rest of Morocco, people here speak quite decent English. Watch your belongings, be aware of common “tourist traps,” and bargain for practically anything. Also, anticipate crowds, particularly in the Medina. Enjoy the fantastic food, lovely stores, and vibrant times, too.

5 awesome things to do in Marrakech!

There is a lot more to do in Marrakech besides just taking in the atmosphere, the cuisine, and your magnificent riad. Here are our top 5 recommendations for things to do and activities when visiting Marrakech!

1. Stroll (and shop) through the Medina in Marrakech

Everywhere you turn, something is happening, and there is a ton to see. Beautiful leather, a ton of jewelry, carpets, and Moroccan dishes are all available. You can also purchase fruit, seafood, meat, and herbs here. I bought saffron, a hammam towel, leather sandals, and argan oil. Negotiating is essential, yet sometimes it’s in your best interest to walk away.Shopaholic fatigue? Then unwind on one of Marrakech’s many rooftop terraces while sipping a cup of mint tea. If you want to shop in quiet in the morning, go there. If you want to watch a thousand-and-a-night scene in the evening, go there.

2. Visit the ysl meusem and the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech

The Yves Saint Laurent Museum and the Jardin Majorelle are both just 1.5 kilometers from the Medina. The YSL museum, which has a display about clothing and architecture, was regrettably closed when we were in Marrakech. The nearby Jardin Majorelle is quite lovely. Mosaic fountains and stunning structures in vivid blue and yellow can be seen amongst the tall cacti and the bamboo forest. The entrance cost is 70 dirhams (plus or minus 6.5 euros) each person.

3. MUST do in Marrakech: Drink mint tea on a rooftop terrace with views over Jmaa El Fna

Particularly in the evening, this sizable area on the edge of the Medina comes to life. With all the pickpockets, con artists, and vendors wearing monkeys on chains, it isn’t all that amazing or enjoyable. However, it is a location that is owned by Marrakech. On one of the square’s roof terraces, we saw the spectacle from above, which is lovely!

4.Visit the Maison de la photographie

A beautiful collection of photographs taken in Morocco may be found in this tiny private museum. Even just to have mint tea on the roof deck is reason enough to go here. Possibly one of Marrakech’s most stunning rooftop decks is this one. The entrance cost is 40 dirhams (plus or minus 4 euros) each person.

5. Stroll through the Palais Bahia

I can heartily suggest this palace for its tranquility and exquisite mosaics found throughout. Wander from room to room and occasionally take a seat to take in the stunning colors of the courtyards. Visit the neighboring Tombeaux Saadiens, a stunning garden that houses the Saadian dynasty’s tombs, while you are already in the area. Entry to the palace and the tomb costs 10 dirhams (+/- 1 euro) per person.

The best riad in Marrakech!

We go back to our hotel, Riad la Parenthèse on the edge of the Medina, when we need to escape the crowds. We firmly believe that this is the finest riad in Marrakech. It is a tranquil paradise, and Patricia, the Belgian owner who fell in love with Morocco more than 20 years ago, pampers us. She made the decision to buy this riad, where eleven families once resided, seven years ago in order to realize her goal. The house was converted into a contemporary riad with six roomy suites and a lovely swimming pool in the courtyard after nearly a year of laborious work. A riad is a typical little hotel in Morocco.

The majority of riads are old homes that offer shade and comfort from the sun through their inner gardens and construction methods. They all have terraces on top, almost all of them. In Marrakech, there are countless riads of every type and budget. Large windows that look out onto the inner garden and the contemporary decor are what set Riad la Parenthèse apart and give the rooms brightness. The correct amount of modern furnishings and traditional Moroccan characteristics are present in each space.

The best restaurants in Marrakech!

Do you wish to eat in a stylish and fashionable restaurant? These are, in our opinion, Marrakech’s top eateries.

Le jardan. In this elegant restaurant, everything from the tables to the lamps to the menus is green. You eat nutritious Moroccan food while surrounded by lots of plants. Compared to most eateries, this place uses a little less butter and oil.

Nomad. The same person that owns Le Jardin also owns this restaurant. The ‘Modern Moroccan food,’ as they refer to it, is served on four storeys. Rooftop terrace provides a lovely

A fun concept store and restaurant together, Max and Jan. On the rooftop terrace, organic and regional soul cuisine is offered.

In contrast to the previous three restaurants, Henna Cafe is unique. For instance, you can enroll in a language program, get a Henna tattoo, or attend an afternoon cooking session with local women. It is a lot cozier and less commercial.

Marrakech tips: how do you not fall into a tourist trap in Marrakech?

Finally, our Marrakech blog will provide you with some helpful advice for your trip to Marrakech.

Marrakech tip 1: pusher sellers

Because they may be so persistent, we occasionally went insane dealing with the folks who tried to offer us things. I found that telling them how much I adore their products but won’t actually be purchasing any of them in a respectful manner helped me get rid of them. The dealers frequently acknowledged this and then dispersed.

Marrakech tip 2: men who show the way

Don’t travel with males who will lead the way for you. This necessarily entails that you will eventually pay.

Marrakech tip 3: negotiate!

NEVER stop negotiating! Initially costing 400 dirhams (plus or minus 38 euros), a taxi from the airline can now be taken for about 80 dirhams (plus or minus 8 euros). The same holds true for all of the medina’s goods.

Marrakech tip 4: pickpockets

Pickpockets should be avoided, particularly in the medina and around Jamaa el-Fna square.

Marrakech tip 5: book ahead!

Plan ahead and make hotel and lodging reservations. The nicest riads in Marrakech are in high demand and sell out rapidly.

Marrakech tip 6: local food

Lunch at a nearby restaurant and mint tea with the Moroccans. a pleasant departure from all the trendy locations where you only encounter tourists.
